COVID-19 update, Aug 31: Australia's Victoria state reports 73 new cases, lowest in two months
The single-day increase in COVID-19 cases in the Australian state of Victoria has fallen to its lowest number in two months. The hotspot recorded just 73 cases on Aug 31, after peaking above 700 in late July. Officials are hopeful a second wave of infections in Melbourne is being brought under control. A steady decrease in the number of daily cases could see Melbourne coming out of a strict city-wide lockdown. State Premier Daniel Andrew said a roadmap for reopening will be released on Sept 6, but warned that any changes will be gradual.
