Neymar and Angel Di Maria ‘call Lionel Messi’ to convince him to join PSG
Lionel Messi has been been contacted by Neymar and Angel Di Maria as PSG try to land the Barcelona star this summer, according to reports from Spain.
Messi’s immediate future has become the talk of football, with the Argentine superstar having told Barcelona he wants to leave after becoming frustrated with the club’s lack of success.
Manchester City are believed to lead the race for the 33-year-old’s signature, with one report from the player’s native Argentina on Friday claiming personal terms had already been agreed.
Juventus are reportedly the latest club to have joined the race as they bid to set up a sensational link-up with Cristiano Ronaldo, while Inter Milan have been touted as a possible destination for the six-times Ballon d’Or winner.
Paris-Saint Germain are also serious suitors, with sporting director Leonardo having held talks with Messi’s representatives, according to Marca.
And the Spanish publication says Messi’s former Barca teammate Neymar and fellow Argentina international Di Maria have joined the charm offensive as well.
The report claims that both players have been in touch with their pal to convince him that his future lies at the Parc des Princes.
However, Marca also points out that Messi’s preference is to switch to the Premier League and join City, where he would be reunited with his former Barca mentor Pep Guardiola.
Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati, cited by Live Soccer TV, has claimed that Messi has already agreed personal terms with City.
And French publication L’Équipe says Juventus are also in the running.
Premier League champions Liverpool have been ruled out of the chase by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
But pundit Jamie Carragher wants to see Messi playing in England’s top flight, and believes City are the only Premier League team who can sign him.

Asked whether Messi could join a Premier League team, Carragher said: “I hope so, I would love to see Messi in the Premier League.
“I want to watch him, I want to analyse him. The obvious place, the only place he can really go [in England] is Manchester City, with the history he’s got with the manager and the financial clout the club have got.”
Carragher added: “But how you get that deal across the line with the figures involved, I’m not too sure. It’s mind-boggling.”
